Waltzes from the World of Vienna
It is with pleasure that we communicate the publication of Waltzes from the World of Vienna, appendix 2 to the catalogue In search of lost sounds. In which is presented the instrument constructed by Johann Heitzmann und Sohn, for Luigi and Clementina Giulini now forming part of the Fernanda Giulini collection. The themes of art and music, already present in the catalogue, are continued here in this new book, which is dedicated to the Viennese maker Johann Heitzmann, along with a study of Vienna at the turn of the century. Giovanni Paolo Di Stefano has cured the constructive details of the instrument, made in Vienna around 1870, Lorenzo Arruga has written an essay on the birth and development of the Viennese waltz from Schubert to Strauss, when many compositions where written to be played for four hands. Luigi Di Fronzo has written an essay on music, culture and politics in Vienna at the turn of the century, when the Empire was declining and art and music were flourishing. Elena Previdi has written an essay on the Viennese piano in the era of Franz Joseph. This publication contains a CD Waltzes for Four Hands: from Schubert to Strauss. Francesca an Federica Badalini play on the Heitzmann piano some very famous waltzes, including An der schönen blauen Donau by Strauss. This waltz has been transcribed for four hands piano by Francesca Badalini, pianist and composer.
